Let me show you what's really behind the show's most recognizable backdrop.
The village pub of Frühling
The Klosterhof zur Post, formerly known as the Gasthof zur Post, is the oldest inn here in Bayrischzell, and it turns up again and again in the ZDF series Frühling as the cozy village pub of the show's fictional town.
The inn's Bräustüberl, its old beer tavern, is a favorite backdrop for the filmmakers in particular. This is where the locals meet up, where tensions bubble to the surface, where the storylines come together. The Bräustüberl first showed up in Episode 15 "Mehr als Freunde", which aired for the first time on April 22, 2018.
The building sits right in the center of Bayrischzell, just a few steps from the church square, which puts it very close to the village helper's office, one of the show's most important filming locations.

From the "Alter Wirth" to the Klosterhof zur Post
The building's story goes all the way back to 1751, when the first tavern in "Zell", today's Bayrischzell, opened its doors as the "Alter Wirth". When the first postal station was set up in 1877, the house took on the name "Gasthof zur Post".
The ties to Scheyern Monastery reach back even further. In the 11th century, Countess Haziga von Scheyern opened up the land around Bayrischzell and founded a Benedictine monastery here. After a break of more than 200 years brought on by the secularization, the inn passed back into the monastery's hands in 2020. That's when it took on the name Klosterhof zur Post. Father Lukas Wirth tells the fuller story behind all of this in our podcast episode.
That makes the Klosterhof zur Post not just the oldest inn in Bayrischzell, but a real piece of local history, and that's exactly why it works as such a strong, believable backdrop for the ZDF series Frühling. For a look at every episode, check out the episode guide.
