Here's how you can already tell around the village that the show is coming back.
As of April 2026, observed firsthand here in Bayrischzell.
What a lot of fans have been hoping for since the emotional season finale on March 15 is now confirmed on the ground too: Frühling is coming back for another round. The production office in Bayrischzell is already staffed again, and prep for Season 16 is in full swing.
There's still no official word from ZDF, but honestly, we don't really need one here in the village. Anyone walking through Bayrischzell right now can feel that things are stirring again. And with an average of roughly 5 million viewers per episode in Season 15, a follow-up was never much of a surprise.
Simone Thomalla is returning as Katja Baumann, and with her, the very heart of the show. If you've ever been here during filming, you know the scene: barriers around the village, equipment trucks lining the streets, and suddenly the whole crew is standing right in the middle of everyday life.
What Season 15 Left Hanging
The finale raised more questions than it answered, and that's exactly what makes the new season so exciting: Ava Gartner is still in a coma after the accident. Arthur Moser has vanished, leaving behind nothing but a puzzling farewell letter. And Friedel Gottwald simply drives off with the line, "I know what you did in secret."
That's not an open ending anymore, that's material for a whole new season.
When Does Season 16 Start?
If ZDF sticks to its usual rhythm, an early 2027 premiere is very likely. And this time around we can probably expect another six episodes of about 90 minutes each, in the familiar Herzkino slot on Sunday nights.
