Learn to ski, snowboard and cross-country ski in the heart of Bayrischzell: lessons for kids and adults, rental and workshop, two minutes from the station.

The Sudelfeld Ski and Snowboard School is right in the centre of the village, on Schlierseer Straße, just a few steps from Bayrischzell station. If you arrive by train, you will practically stumble over it. Children and adults learn to ski, snowboard and cross-country ski here, from their very first day on skis to fine-tuning their turns on a red run. According to the school, more than 50 certified instructors are part of the team.

It is run by Marius Kornder, who is very active in Bayrischzell and in the ski club. The school's motto: "We make wishes come true right away, the impossible takes a little longer."

For Families

Kids' lessons: five hours for you

The school puts it best itself: if your child is in ski school, you get five hours of holiday. The lesson lasts four hours, plus a one-hour lunch break during which the instructors look after the children. Just give your child some money for lunch.

At the meeting point, the instructors split the children into groups by ability, so nobody is bored or overwhelmed. Learning happens in a group and in a playful way.

Alpine Skiing

From the first snowplough to the moguls

There are group lessons and private lessons for adults and children. To make sure you end up in the right group, the school works with four levels. Green is for beginners learning to glide, stop and make their first snowplough turns. Blue is for everyone who wants to ski confidently on blue runs and use the lifts on their own. Red is about parallel, rhythmic turns on red runs and the FIS rules. Black is the expert level: steep slopes, hard pistes and moguls, confident in any snow and terrain.

In a private lesson the instructor focuses on you alone. You help decide what you want to learn and usually make faster progress. This also works for several people.

Snowboarding

Surfing on snow

All snowboard lessons start at the Wedellift in the Sudelfeld ski area. Children can join from the age of eight, again with a supervised lunch break. Three levels take you from your first turns on frontside and backside to carved turns on red runs and your first obstacles in the Easy Fun Park.

Cross-Country

Cross-country skiing in private lessons

The school teaches cross-country skiing in private lessons only, whether it is your first time on skinny skis or you want to improve your classic or skating technique. Where you meet depends on your ability and the snow, any point on the trail network is possible. The main access points are in Geitau, at the Sportalm in Bayrischzell and at the Stocker car park.

Which loops there are and whether the trails are groomed is on my cross-country page, you will find the link below.

Rental and Workshop

Gear that is looked after every day

No gear of your own? You can still join a lesson. The rental shop has complete sets for alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country, boots on their own, plus helmets, poles, ski jackets, snow pants and snowshoes.

According to the school, the rental equipment is serviced every day, meaning the bases are cleaned, filled, ground and waxed, and the boots go into an ozone dryer. If something does not fit, simply swap it. You can have your rental skis waxed every day, that is included in the price.

The workshop also takes your own skis and boards. They check the settings of skis and boots, and there is a small service with cleaning and waxing or a full service with base repair and grinding, by hand or by machine.

The Team

Over 50 instructors in blue

The instructors are trained every year by internal and external trainers, both in skiing itself and in teaching. On the slopes you will recognise them by their blue ski school outfits, and the meeting points are marked with the school's blue banners.

Getting There

By train and ski bus, no car needed

From Munich, the Bayerische Regiobahn runs to Bayrischzell every hour, and from the station it is about a two-minute walk. The free ski bus to the Tannerfeld winter park, the Sudelfeld and the cross-country trail stops right outside the ski school. By car, take the first exit into Bayrischzell and after about 800 metres you can park on the right.

If you come by train, you can use the MVV Skipass Sudelfeld combined ticket, with the return journey, the ski bus and a day pass. According to the school, it is not always the cheapest option during a ski course, so best ask them first.
