A guesthouse with its own kitchen in Geitau

Gasthof Aiplspitz

I've known the Gasthof Aiplspitz for years. Annette Delgay and I went to school together, and anyone who knows her will tell you the same thing: you'd be hard-pressed to find warmer hosts. Together with her husband Alain, who comes from France and runs the kitchen, she keeps a guesthouse in Geitau, a small district of Bayrischzell, that you simply won't find anywhere else in the Alps. Bavarian hospitality meets French cooking.

It's a guesthouse and a restaurant rolled into one. Stay the night and you don't just get a room with a mountain view, you get a breakfast made with regional organic products and, come evening, a kitchen that people drive all the way out to Geitau for. Gasthof Aiplspitz

The Rooms

Nine rooms, every one with a mountain view

The Aiplspitz has nine rooms across four categories, from a single room starting at €52 to a comfort double with separate living and sleeping areas at around 30 m² (320 sq ft). Every room comes with a balcony and mountain view, a shower, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. No frills, no design-hotel airs, just solid, clean rooms held to the same standard across every category. What changes from one to the next is the size and how many people it sleeps.

Breakfast is included in the price: a buffet with regional products, organic farmhouse cheese, homemade jams and fresh rolls from the organic baker. Breakfast runs from 8 to 10 am, and check-in is from 1 pm. Pets, unfortunately, aren't allowed.

What Sets It Apart

Stay where the chef himself is cooking

What really makes the Aiplspitz special as a place to stay is that kitchen. Alain Delgay stands at the stove himself and cooks a deliberately short, ever-changing menu. Bavarian specialties with a French touch, made from regional ingredients, much of it from farmers and producers right in the area. The pasta is made in-house, and vegetarian dishes are a given. The menu stays small on purpose, and that's not a shortcoming. It's the whole point: everything here is fresh and made by hand.

Then there are the regular crêpe nights, when the guesthouse turns into a proper French crêperie. It's a real treat, and nothing else in the region comes close. Geitau itself sits quiet and close to nature, right at the foot of the mountain, perfect for hiking and for winter days away from the bustle of the main village.

You'll find the rooms, prices and online booking straight from the guesthouse, no detour through booking portals.
